Review: Wayward #6

This week we see the return of Wayward to the book shelves. The series has been on a hiatus since Mid-December, following the somewhat climactic cliffhanger ending of issue #5. Issue #6 starts the second story arc, which picks up three months after the events in issue #5 (I see what you did there, Zub).

We are introduced to a new character, Ohara Emi. She seems like your typical teenage Japanese girl, until she starts exhibiting the ability to absorb materials she comes in contact with and experiences a vision of Rori. Just how is Ohara connected to Rori? More importantly, why do the spirits want her dead? Continue reading Review: Wayward #6

Wayward Volume 1Gets Collected

The first five issues of the hit fantasy series are collected into trade paperback

Writer Jim Zub (SKULLKICKERS, Samurai Jack) and penciler Steven Cummings (Legends of the Dark Knight, Deadshot) spin enchantment and mystery together in a fantasy story about one girl’s battle against the mythological creatures everyday mortals fail to see. Set in Japan, WAYWARD’s depiction of the busy city streets of Tokyo and its rich occult history make it as much a living, breathing character as spunky teen protagonist Rori.

Wayward is about disaffected youth battling myths of old and, just like being a teenager, it’s intense, funny, emotional, and violent,” said Zub. “‘String Theory’ is our first step into this twisted world of modern, mystic mystery and I’m excited to bring readers along for the ride.”

Gaumer’s Top New Ongoing Comics of 2014

We continue our review of the year that was 2014, and I wanted to cap off my series of articles covering the awesome of 2014 by highlighting this year’s comics that will persist into 2015 and beyond. Ongoing comics are one of my favorite aspects of the medium because they are there each and every month, provide an opportunity to tell elaborate stories with epic scope, and there’s nothing quite like a 50 issue investment paying off in spades. But, being a comic Nowist (coined term; trademark pending) I’m all about the new comics, and the freshness and excitement that comes along with them. Here’s my top new ongoing comic books of 2014.
