HOWTOONS [RE] IGNITION FIRES UP CHILDREN’S IMAGINATIONS
Graphic novel teaches STEAM skills through story
HOWTOONS, the comic that taps into kids’ imagination and curiosity with DIY science projects, is back with HOWTOONS: [RE] IGNITION. In this February graphic novel from Image Comics, Celine and Tucker are siblings who wake up in the far future, where energy is scarce and their parents are missing! They explore a strange new Earth using their gadgeteering skills to create projects and experiments to survive hostile tribes and bizarre mechanized threats — projects and experiments kids and parents can make themselves at home, and learn basic energy literacy at the same time!

High above the Earth, Celine is trapped by the mysterious Stormbreakers while deep below the ground, Tuck attempts to free himself from the leader of the Orphans, He-Who-Burns. The kids don’t just have to reunite with each other—unless they get these two groups to stop warring and work together, their world is doomed!
The hands-on, DIY for kids hit Howtoons (RE)Ignition is the comic book that’s every bit as much creative and educational experience as it is an example of outstanding sequential art. Although issue #2 took a big dip in story from issue #1, the creativity and educational portions of this ish were the stars, along with some amazing art.

Howtoons is the brainchild of comic book artist Nick Dragotta, inventor Saul Griffith, toy designer Ingrid Dragotta, and engineer Joost Bonsen, and its mission is to provide engaging content that teaches kids science and engineering, combining instruction with storytelling. Howtoons has a foundation of science and engineering education, inspiring creativity through art and imagination. But really, it’s a comic book unlike any other I have ever read. Here’s the skinny.
