Review: Intersect #1

Intersect01_CoverIt’s hard to explain what Intersect is exactly. I’m not sure if this story is taking place in a characters mind,  either a dream or nightmare, or if even the events of the story are actually happening in the reality established in this issue. This is the first issue, so there’s going to be some world-building, but it felt lacking. I was lost after one character changes personalities three times in the issue. Ray Fawkes performs a double duty on this book, both as the writer and artist. I’ve been enjoying his work on Batman Eternal. I know he can tell a good story about madness and insanity from his work on Constantine. As an artist, Fawkes’ panels are wonderfully done. Sadly, it doesn’t help this book. Here’s our Preview.

News: Marvel Announces ‘Wolverines’

Wolverines_1_Dell'Otto_VariantI threw down some opinion on this earlier this week, but I guess I put the cart before the horse, as Marvel has officially announced this new weekly title. Despite how I feel about a weekly coming from Marvel, the book looks fairly interesting. Wolverines is being co-written by Charles Soule and Ray Fawkes, with Nick Bradshaw on the early artist duties, but the demands of weekly book will certainly require an artist change sooner rather than later. Here’s the full news release from Marvel.

Opinion: Marvel’s ‘Wolverines’ Weekly

News came out of NYCC this weekend about the new Marvel weekly title Wolverines. This small tidbit of news may not sound too important, but it’s a huge deal, for a lot of reasons.

Review: Future’s End Batman #1

Review: Future’s End Batman #1

Plot by Scott Snyder

Written by Ray Fawkes

Art by ACO and FCO Plascencia

Last week we saw how the five year time shift has affected Batman in the extremely disappointing Future’s End Detective Comics. So does the Batman proper title fare better or is it just as bad as some of these other tie-ins? Well, good news. Its actually pretty good and serves as a prequel to Snyder’s and Murphy’s clone story from Detective Comics #27. Continue reading Review: Future’s End Batman #1

Jules: Southern Bastards #3

Jason Aaron and Jason Latour are at it with a strange very cool title. Welcome to Craw County, Alabama, home of Boss BBQ, the state champion Runnin’ Rebs football team…and more bastards than you’ve ever seen. Angry old Earl Tubb has returned to handle his family’s estate when he gets mixed up in somethings, the only way to survive a place like this…is to carry a really big stick. I’m been digging this title. Its definitely worth checking out if you haven’t yet! Aaron the man writing Thor: God of Thunder and Latour writing Wolverine and the X-Men at Marvel, this is a wicked strange tale that’s definitely worth checking out, folks.

Taylor: Black Widow #8

Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto continue to give strong work with each issue, with intriguing character work from Edmondson coupled with Noto’s stunning art. This week, we get to see a black ops team-up between the Widow and another Marvel’s premiere spooks (and yet another of Natasha’s exes), the Winter Soldier. This issue should be a lot of fun.

Christian: Batman Eternal #13

DC’s weekly Batman book just keep getting better and better. All the Bat-family members are here; the multifaceted story is intriguing, and I just can’t wait to see where this book goes each and every week. With an imprisoned Gordon being taken to Blackgate prison, Gotham’s Top-Cop is going to be in a whole mess of trouble, and Batman just doesn’t have the time to help him out. This is going to be a great issue!

Gaumer:Original Sin #5

The reveal at the end of the last issue of Marvel summer blockbuster event Original Sin left a whole lot of readers’ jaws sitting on the floor, and I want, nay, need some answers. Just how long has Nick Fury been using LMDs to doppelgang his way around the Marvel U? And why let the cat out of the bag now? The layers of mystery keep unfolding in this title, and I’m ready to get some answers to my questions.

Jules: All-New X-Men #25

Brian Michael Bendis is bringing another giant collaborative issue this week. Regular artist Stuart Immonen is joined by Art Adams, Bruce Timm, Dan Hipp, David Mack, David Marquez, J. Scott Campbell, Jake Parker, Jason Shiga, J.G. Jones, Jill Thompson, Kent Williams, Lee Bermejo, Maris Wicks, Max Wittert, Paul Smith, Rafael Grampa, Robbi Rodriguez, Ronnie Del Carmen, and Skottie Young, so this issue is bound to at least look awesome! Coming off the heels of the Trial of Jean Grey, a crossover with the Guardians of the Galaxy, we find the original X-Men in disarray. Young Cyclops has left the team to pursue adventure with his father in space, leaving X-23 to help lead the team. Jean having now discovered a new side to her powers, which just may match her Phoenix abilities. Will Beast now swoop in on Jean now that Cyclops is gone? Is everyone gonna start paying attention to Angel? I really cannot wait to see what Iceman has to say about all of this. Grab this issue.

Jesse: East of West #11

It’s hard not to look forward to the beautiful alternate American History Epic that has been Jonathan Hickman’s East of West. As Death grows closer to finding his son, the mysterious Judge looks to step in as the next trial. With the Chosen continuing to make a mess of the known world, I honestly can’t say I know what’s gonna happen next?! I can say I can’t wait to finish the issue and stare at Nick Dragotta’s seriously brilliant art he provides for this title. Every issue has been worth every cent. If you haven’t touched this title you need the trades, and everything that leads to this issue.

Taylor: Captain Marvel #2

Issue #2 of Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Captain Marvel hits the shelves this week, continuing the title character’s adventures through space. With the plot picking up steam and the venue expanding to cosmic proportions, this issue promises to be a lot of fun. And honestly, it’s hard to not like a book where the main character names her cat “Chewie”.

Christian: Batman Eternal #1

This is a book I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. If any single character in the DC Universe deserves a weekly title, it’s the Dark Knight himself, Batman. I’m expecting a face-paced, entertaining story that not only makes this first issue a must-read but also shows some building for the future. They’ve got a lot of issues to fill in this series, and if they want to sell all those issues this first one is going to have to be awesome. So look for it to be.

Don’t dare miss the start of the Bat-story so big it’s going to take every week of the month to tell! A massive cast of Gotham City’s best (and worst) examines the relationship between Batman, his allies and his city. In this debut issue, Commissioner James Gordon is caught on the wrong side of the law!

Gaumer: All-New Ghost Rider #2

Ghost rider #2

There were moments in Ghost Rider issue #1 where my jaw dropped and I audibly gasped at the speed and beauty of Tradd Moore’s amazing work on art, and I have the highest confidence that he will be repeating that brilliance with issue #2 of All-New Ghost Rider. Writer Felipe Smith was no slouch on the story from ish #1, either, and I’m really excited to learn more about the newest Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes, as we go on this life-altering journey along with him. There’s plenty of questions leftover from the first ish of this series, and I’m ready to get to some answers.
