Jules: All-New Ultimates #2

I really dug on the first issue! Michel Fife has brought the Ultimate Universe it’s sorta own New Warriors! It may not be your parents Ultimates but it certain is a new take on the Ultimates Franchise. A younger step in the next directions something the Ultimate Universe has had the advantage of doing is moving forward with its heroes. Letting characters die and stay dead. This youthful Ultimates is just what the doctor ordered as they take on the Serpent Skull Gang( Ultimate Serpent Society) I’m excited to see what happens next!

Taylor: Avengers #29

As Original Sin ramps up, it seems that many characters’ past transgressions will come back to haunt them. And for the Avengers, that means we’ll get some pay off to a plot point that’s been simmering for over a year as the Illuminati’s manipulation of Captain America is finally brought to light. This promises to have some high drama, and should make for a good read.

Christian: Batgirl #31

There’s a lot of books I’m looking forward to this week – Futures End #2, Batman Eternal #6, Batman & Frankenstein – but all those books are missing one very important thing: Gail Simone. And she’s bringing Ragdoll back? This makes the top of my stack easy.

Gaumer: Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #1

It doesn’t feel like that long ago that I would sit back on a Saturday afternoon and enjoy a really bad, but really awesome, old-school Kung-Fu movie. The bad voice-over, the cheesy sound effects, the over-the-top karate action! It was almost too much for my childhood self, and I’m looking for that same sort nostalgia, albeit with an updated feel, from Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #1. Will it deliver? I’m betting the top spot on my stack this week that it will.

Review: New Warriors #2

newwarriors2

New Warriors #2

Writer: Chris Yost

Artist: Marcus To

Another #2 I was really looking forward to. Gonna be honest I’m probally one of the people who is fueling Chris Yost career( no I’m not so arrogant to think I’m the only guy buying his books, don’t be thick. I’m just a huge fan, arent’t we all?) because he does exactly what I look for in a team title. His previous work on X-Force, a solid run I recommend you pick up the trades. The team seemingly scattered and completely unaware that they are gonna be the NEW WARRIORS( you have no idea how much the seven year old in me did so many backflips and won a gold medal being able to say that)! The Evolutionaries are on the warpath attacking Mutants and Inhumans?! Remember those guys from X-Men they tried to wipe out Humanity and protect mutants. Somehow the High Evolutionary is involved and Nova is his big plan?

The Good

Oh man what a great follow up to what had been going on in the last issue. First off I just wanna say Chris Yost beat me to something I really wanted to do someday when I become a writer at Marvel( in my dreams) and that was hit on the fact that Justice is a mutant. It felt so personal the Evolutionaries attacking those who aren’t human and calling out the mutants. It was a wonderful touch, a part of the character so many people forget about. I also loved that Speedball had no idea what he was as far as not being human. Kaine getting his but whooped by the new Namora was awesome, and then looking like a chump when his partner settles the whole squabble and finds out just what is going on. I have no idea who this new rhino kid in the underarmor sweatshirt, but nice product placement.

The Bad

Well not much in this issue I had a problem with but a few nitpicks. The mention of Firestar hit me and Justice in the feels. She’s on Amazing X-Men ok Speedball! Let it go! feels a little like cheating when the fact that these awesome unused X-Men villains who were created by Chris Yost get to be the opening villains in his New Warriors, and Sun Girl who is also a Chris Yost creation gets to star in this New Warriors revival.

The Verdicts

I love this title its got all the right things going for it right now. Two issues deep and the team is still not together which is how you should pace a title. I’m diggin on the cast of characters, one of the few fans of the new Nova. I still have loads of questions on just what the heck is going on right now and what the heck are they gonna do about it. I really love what Marcus To is doing on art and really stoked on the next Issue for sure.

Jules: New Warriors #2

Really think this title is gonna be solid. The first issue was just exactly what the doctor ordered. Classic Chris Yost, a team spread out with very different ideals will somehow make their way to one another for a common goal they cannot foresee. I love how random the cast of characters are for the most part. Really can’t wait ’til this team is pulled together. I’m dying to see just where exactly the New Warriors fit in the Avengers World, this new dawn of Mutants, this Inhuman age… Where will this team fit?

Gaumer:  Forever Evil #6

The penultimate chapter in Geoff Johns and David Finch’s amazingly entertaining event, Forever Evil, is finally upon us, if not a week or so late. The final fate of Nightwing, more escapades of Lex Luthor’s new Justice League, and more Crime Syndicate dysfunction is on the menu, and, going by what we’ve been given thus far, I have a ton of faith that the last build-up to the finality of this event is going to something people talk about for years. Don’t miss this!

Taylor: She-Hulk #2

Fresh off of a strong showing from Issue #1, Soule and Pulido return with their next installment in the adventures of Jen Walters. This series is shaping up to be a lot of fun, and a refreshing change of pace from usual super-heroic fair, as it looks to blend Shulkies superhero and lawyer identities together. I’m anxious to see if they can keep up the good work.

J. Jonah Jesse: The Saviors #3

A sort of quirky Lizard Aliens taking over the earth, and our protagonist, the unlikely stoner, caught up in the middle of it! James Robinson got out of DC and is making serious waves in new Indie titles and Marvel books. This is a gem of a comic. Artist J. Bone is creating a snapping black and white world with a stylized feel right out of a ’70s cartoon. This is certainly at the top of my pull list this week.

Tomas Ramirez is now in the small Mexican coastal town of La Calma, where other new freedom fighters allies intend to test a device to end the threat of the aliens forever. But the aliens have a counterattack plan of their own, so this certainly will be the Day of the Dead.
