We continue our look back at the year that was 2014, and this time around it’s all about the high, the lows, and the letdowns in video gaming. 2014 was full of some good games, but it also had its fair share of bad games and big disappointment.

Howdy and welcome to the first installment of the Top o’ the Lot for 2015! This one is something of a retrospective, as I’ll be looking back on the 2014’s Top o’ the Lot and choosing those ones I thought were the best entries. You might say this is the Top o’ the Lot’s very own Top o’ the Lot from 2014. When Gaumer asked me to write this, his reasoning was pretty straight-forward. I had not written one in 2014, meaning that I could remain unbiased in selecting the best picks.
All the Top o’ the Lots are fun reads, there’s a little something for everyone. Some are full of knowledge that might come in handy during trivia night. While others might invoke a nostalgic memory from childhood. Then there are the ones that spark debates and discussions over. Conversations resulting from those can be heated at times, but in the end it’s the time you spend talking to your friends over the things you are passionate about that really matters. You’ll never know what you’re going to find. Continue reading Top o’ the Lot: Tops o’ the Lot of 2014
We continue our review of the year that was 2014, and I wanted to cap off my series of articles covering the awesome of 2014 by highlighting this year’s comics that will persist into 2015 and beyond. Ongoing comics are one of my favorite aspects of the medium because they are there each and every month, provide an opportunity to tell elaborate stories with epic scope, and there’s nothing quite like a 50 issue investment paying off in spades. But, being a comic Nowist (coined term; trademark pending) I’m all about the new comics, and the freshness and excitement that comes along with them. Here’s my top new ongoing comic books of 2014.

Outright Geekery’s series of posts highlighting the very best of the year that was 2014 continues with the comic books that pulled of a whole lot with very little. It’s easy to pull off epic stories in titles that span dozens of issues and years of building, but doing that in less than a dozen books takes some real talent, and the impact on the reader is as relatively great as the number of comic pages is relatively small. Here’s my top comic book limited series of 2014. Continue reading Gaumer’s Top Comic Book Limited Series of 2014
Outright Geekery continues its rundown of the year that was 2014, and I’m sticking with comic books again, but this time it’s my favorite artists of the year. Man, there were so many pretty pictures, so much great art, this year that it was nigh impossible to come up with a short list. So, I made a long list featuring my favorite artists of the whole year, and instead of some long, drawn-out critique of how awesome these folks are at drawing lines on paper, here’s the list and some of their best stuff from the year. I implore you to click the images to make them larger, and behold the most awesome art of the entire year. Continue reading Gaumer’s Top Comic Book Artists of 2014
The End Draws Nigh…the end of 2014, that is. And what a great year is was for comics! The Outright Geekery crew is running down the year that was 2014 with a series of articles spotlighting the highs and lows that marked the twelvemonth, and I’d be lacking in my duties if I didn’t chime in with my own list of top comics. There’s a lot of way I could have gone with this; Best Titles, Best Arcs, Even a list of Best Characters and the issues that made them that way; but I decided to highlight my favorite single issues of the year, and it was no small task. There were so many great issues this year that it was difficult to whittle it down to just 5…so I picked 6.

Events are the bread and butter of the comic book industry, and all of the big publishers and titles get in on the hype and extra monthly books that go with. 2014 had some great events from not only the usual suspects DC and Marvel, but also some smaller presses that pushed the envelope to get some buzz and find some success. We’re running down the very best of comic book 2014 events in our Year in Review series, and the list has just as many surprises as it does sure things. Any way you slice it, it was a great year for comic book events, but I narrowed it down to my top 10.
