Top o’ The Lot: Non-Big 2 Comics That Should be TV Shows

Honorable Mention: X-O Manowar

I’m sure man of you have seen X-O over the years from either it’s original inception or its current run and thought what’s up with the weird looking Iron Power Ranger. Well it’s so much more than you think. A Visogoth, a warrior from the old world looking to take down the Romans and reclaim his home when he’s suddenly taken by a strange alien race. Yeah I know that turned pretty quickly. The vine abduct the best specimens and take them to harvest for them. Enter the Visogoth Aric and his quest to return home and slay his captors. Along the way gets one of the most powerful weapons in the known Galaxy. Hello Game of Thrones meets Battlestar Galatica. Of all the Valiant titles this one can stand on its own with never having to mingle with the others, however that’s not to say it wouldn’t be cool. I just think this story has so much more going on and shouldn’t be restricted by being a 2hour film. This series could go the distance. Review: Secret Wars #2

Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Esad Ribic

Secret Wars #1 left my jaw on the ground and the hairs on the back of my neck permanently in the air. Secret Wars #2 begins with a rite of passage for a young man to join a force of THORS. Thors who guard the entirety of Doom’s kingdom. After the collapse of existence it would seem Doom has created his prefect world, in his perfect vision. City States governed by Barons who answer to the Sheriff Strange and to the almighty Doom. Secret Wars #1 was the end of all we knew of Marvel. Secret Wars #2 is the first glimpse of a fantastical world Doom has put on stage for us, many of the inhabitants have come to call….read the issue. Continue reading Review: Secret Wars #2

Review: Ant-Man #5

Writer: Nick Spencer
Artist: Ramon Rosanas
Cover: Mark Brooks

The sorta conclusion to the first art of Nick Spencer’s Ant-Man is here. Let me adjust by spouting that Ant-Man has been my favorite superhero since I was 4 living in Miami. So the fact that Ant-Man is in my hometown getting into all sorts of hijinks has been wonderful. Spencer/Rosanas the Ant-Man title I have been wanting for years. Scott Lang one of many to shrink into the Ant-Man mantle is face to face with the foe he first took on as Ant-Man, Darren Cross. Once again Darren Cross has put Scott’s daughter Cassie in harm’s way and Scott is the only one there to stop Cross. Continue reading Review: Ant-Man #5

Review: Secret Wars #1

Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Esad Ribic
Cover: Alex Ross

Everything Ends. The haunting phrase Jonathan Hickman has been trying to get me to wrap my head around since his Avengers run started in 2012. The Multiverse is collapsing. The Beyonders have found existence to be a waste of an experiment. There are only two universes remaining: Earth 616 and Earth 1610. The Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe. This is it. The Legendary Heroes of the 616 going toe to toe with the honest husks left of the Ultimate Universe. Prepare for what’s to come. Prepare for the Real Secret Wars. Top o’ The Lot: Reboots

From time to time Outright Geekery brings you a slanted and biased opinion on some trivially specific topic of geekery. We call it Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot.

Every so many years our favorite ongoing titles get bit stretched. New ideas become harder and a little restricted by what has been done already. So sometimes publishers scrap everything established and start fresh. Reboot the story and start anew. Some of flat out hate the idea of a Reboot. Some of us think of the c.g. show from the 90’s. Most of us comic readers associate the word with DC who seem to really enjoy it. We do have to understand Reboot usually is for one thing. New Readers. We can think of other reasons, like cleaning up continuity, updating origins, but come on. This weeks Top O’ the Lot we are going to count down our favorite Reboots, in honor of the supposed two Reboots coming to us this year. Continue reading Top o’ The Lot: Reboots
