A lifelong comic book geek, lifelong Star Trek geek, lifelong Star Wars geek, just an overall lifelong geek. I'm just as likely to write a simple comic book review as I am a complex synopsis of the political landscape of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I get off on good comics, bad comedy, and just about anything in between. There's only one thing you can count on in my content: It will be different in its own little way. Thanks for checking me out, and thanks for being a fan of Outright Geekery.

Top o’ the Lot: Dinosaur Riding

From time to time Outright Geekery brings you a slanted and biased opinion on some trivially specific topic of geekery. We call it Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot. Dinosaurs aren’t just col right now because of the blockbuster movie Jurassic World. Dinosaurs have ALWAYS been cool! When I was a kid dinos were a really big deal, and although the interest in Terrible Lizards waxes and wanes the ancient animals are always good fodder for fun story telling. And the only thing cooler than simply having a dinosaur in a story is when a character rides one into battle. So, without further ado, we touch on the brand  new, go way back in time to the obscure, and give credit to the classics in Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot: Dinosaur Riding.

Review: We Stand on Guard #1

Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
Artist/Cover: Steve Skroce

‘O, Canada!’

Brian K. Vaughan is a living legend among comic book writers. The list of his work at the Big 2 publishers is renowned as quintessential character crafting – RunawaysDr. Strange: The Oath, and The Hood: Blood from Stones are stories as important to their cast as any, and it’s the same with his work at DC on titles like Young Justice and Swamp Thing. The writer known simply as BKV, however, is truly known for his work on more independent-esque comics like The EscapistsPride of BaghdadY the Last ManEx Machina, and, of course, SAGA. Well, Vaughan has delivered the quality comic consumables we’ve come accustomed to seeing from the author with his latest offering, We Stand On Guard, which is as equally thought-provoking as it is entertaining.

Top o’ the Lot: New Comics for the First Half of 2015

From time to time Outright Geekery brings you a slanted and biased opinion on some trivially specific topic of geekery. We call it Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot.

It’s already been a banner year for comic books of every variety this year, but, as always, I like to put my focus on the new. New comics; brand spanking #1s; offer readers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of greatness, or give them a leg up on some really vague geek trivia. I love the mystery, the novelty of something different, and the chance to share the awesomeness with folks who may have missed out. There were a lot of good, new comics that have already dropped this year, but I narrowed it down to a Lot. So, without further ado,

(Note: To qualify for this list a series must have premiered its first issue between January 7th and June 24th according to Previewsworld.com’s Release Schedule Archive.
