Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: July 1st, 2015

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Taylor: The Wicked + The Divine #12

Last issue ended on one hell of a cliffhanger, with the status quo shaken up drastically and not one, but TWO explosions of great import. The rules we thought we knew don’t seem to apply anymore, so I’m very anxious to see where things go from here.

The aftershocks from the Fandemonium apocalypse are tearing the gods apart. Join us for a new arc of guest artists working alongside Team WicDiv, starting with KATE BROWN (Young Avengers).

David: Princess Leia #5

It’s the final issue of this Star Wars mini-series. Leia’s mission to save the remaining Alderaan refugees hit a snag in the previous issue. Now she’s in Imperial custody, but I suspect she’s not going to stay there long. Hats off to  Mark Waid and Terry Dodson, they have made this series a wonderful read and I’m sad to see it ending. But not to worry, the Lando series is coming soon.

•  The conclusion to Leia’s most personal mission!

Gaumer: We Stand On Guard #1

Brian K. Vaughan is one of the most celebrated, current writers in all of comics right now. His list of past works reads like a masterclass of Marvel and Independent award winners, and his current mega-hit SAGA appears regularly on the best comics on store shelves. We Stand on Guard, however, appears to be something completely different than anything the writer has done before, and I for one cannot wait to start reading this series.

(Writer) Brian K. Vaughan (Artist/Cover) Steve Skroce
SAGA writer BRIAN K. VAUGHAN teams with artistic legend and MATRIX storyboard artist STEVE SKROCE for an action-packed military thriller that will have everyone talking. 100 years from now, a heroic band of Canadian civilians must defend their homeland from invasion…by the United States of America! The hyper-detailed combat between badass freedom fighters and giant f***ing robots begins with a spectacular 40-PAGE FIRST ISSUE for the regular price of just $2.99!

Adam: The Omega Men #2

Last month’s Omega Men #1 was a surprisingly smart and unique book, especially considering the fact it came from DC. Here is hoping #2 is more of the same. King gave himself a solid foundation to build something great here and I would hate to see it go to waste.

Publisher: DC COMICS

What do you do after the entire galaxy watches you murder the White Lantern Kyle Rayner? Run.

Jules: A-Force #2

Knowing that A-Force is gonna stick around past Secret Wars has my interest peaked as to where the title is gonna go. With G. Willow Wilson at the reigns I can safely say I will enjoy it. The first issue was solid and def peaked my interest. As a huge She-Hulk fan I’m in it. As a huge Dazzler fan I’m sold. I’m ready to see all the places they take this.

(Writer) G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett (Artist/Cover) Jorge Molina
• With monsters appearing on the utopian island of Arcadia and threatening its inhabitants, She-Hulk and her team of Avengers set out to discover the source.
•  But when they stumble upon a conspiracy that reaches far beyond Arcadia, She-Hulk may just find herself on the wrong side of the law!
