Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: May 27th, 2015

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Taylor: Black Widow #18

Consistently a good read month after month, this issue sees us picking up with Natasha after her globetrotting teleportation fight against Chaos’ Prophet. The excuse to type sentences like that is one of the many things I love about comics in general, and I’m excited to see where things go next.

(Writer) Nathan Edmondson (Artist/Cover) Phil Noto
• Natasha goes head to head with CHAOS!
•  Will Natasha be able to bring down the unassailable Prophet?

David: Old Man Logan #1

When it comes to big events with a lot of tie-ins, I try to steer clear of as many tie-ins as much as I possibly can. That being said, I am actually looking forward to revisiting one of my favorite Wolverine stories of recent years, Old Man Logan. Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s original run was one of the best Wolverine stories I ever read. Seriously, where else are you going to see the Venom symbiote fused with a T-Rex and some rather redneck-looking Hulks. Old Man Logan was such awesome story and ended in a way that left me wanting more. Now thanks to Marvel Secret Wars 2015, the opportunity to revisit one of my favorite Wolverine stories has arrived.

(Writer) Brian Michael Bendis (Artist/Cover) Andrea Sorrentino
Enter the Wastelands…a realm where all heroes have been murdered by their arch-enemies, villains who now rule over the land with an iron fist. In the midst of this dystopian chaos, one man may make a difference…a reluctant warrior who was once the greatest mutant of all…a man known as OLD MAN LOGAN.
Item Code: MAR150656
In Shops: 5/27/2015
SRP: $4.99

 Gaumer: Secret Wars Journal #1

I’m all in for this Secret Wars thing, and it’s going to be a wild ride. But, like any amusement park, there’s always hidden gems that many of us don’t want to risk, but I’m excited to do it. Fresh blood and a great backdrop could make for some good stories, and I’m betting my first book of the week on it.

(Writers) Prudence Shen, Michael Rosenberg (Artists) Ramon Bachs, Luca Pizzari (Cover) Kevin Wada
• Is LADY KATE of 1602 the nefarious HAWKEYE BANDIT who robs from the rich and gives to the poor?
•  Can an enslaved band of MUTANTS in EGYPTIA overthrow their overlord, KHONSHU?
•  Can YOU afford not to read the coolest, hippest, most continuity-important book in all of SECRET WARS??? Because this is TOTALLY THAT BOOK. But don’t tell anyone. It’ll be our little Secret…Wars Journal.
Item Code: MAR150641
In Shops: 5/27/2015
SRP: $3.99

Adam: Transformer More Than Meets the Eye #41

With both Marvel and DC stuck in their summer events and pumping out almost nothing but tie-ins, I have really had a chance to focus on some of the unsung great books in my pull list. MTMTE is consistantly one of the best books month in and month out with excellent characters, smart plots, dire consequences, and a ton of fun. Check this one out and I promise you will not be disappointed.

(Writer) James Roberts (Artist/Cover) Alex Milne
“Dear RODIMUS and crew… It’s my funeral tomorrow and I’d love it if you could all be there. Refreshments will be provided. Please R.S.V.P.-THUNDERCLASH”
