Review: Dead Drop #1

Writer: Ales Kot
Artist: Adam Gorham
Color Artist: Michael Spicer
Letters: Dave Sharpe
Design: Jared K. Fletcher
Cover Artists: Raul Allen, Adam Gorham, Tamra Bonvillain, Juan José Ryp, Pete Pantazis, Brian Level, Jordan Boyd

This was a refreshing story. We have a superhero story, an espionage story, and something ripped right out of HBO’S The wire. Probably one of the best chase scenes I have ever read. X-O finally starts to blend with the new world, and everyone might die. I’m in!

Ales writes a suspenseful story that literally is non stop from cover to cover. I had to go back a few pages at points just to make sure I got everything. So far, I am intrigued as to what the dead drop was all about. Well done.

The art team of Adam Gorham and Michael Spicer craft a unique style that marries perfectly with Ales’s writing on this book. Fast paced, and non stop. Fantastic flow from panel to panel.

The cover also is striking. Here’s X-O seemingly falling. Why? Well it all plays straight into the first panel of the book! Something that is rarely seen in the industry today!

All in all this was an exciting, fun, action packed issue, all using just two characters. I for one can’t wait to see how this affects the Valiant Universe. Maybe just like The Valiant? Another game changer? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
