Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: March 11th, 2015

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Taylor: New Avengers #31

This week is going to be a very busy one for me with consistent favorites Thor and Ms Marvel both putting in an appearance. But my pick this week just has to go to New Avengers #31, which promises some closure to the question that has been festering since Hickman’s run began: Just who the hell is causing the death of the Multiverse? This answer has been a long time coming, so of course that’s what I’m looking forward to the most this week.New Avengers #31NEW AVENGERS #31

David: Ant-Man #3

The majority of my new comics this week are from Marvel. That said, I’m picking Ant-Man this week as the title I’m most excited to read first this week. This series has been a fun read since issue one with Scott trying to establish his security business. Now that Taskmaster shown up, fingers crossed that we’re going to see a throw-down.Ant-Man #3ANT-MAN #3
(Writer) Nick Spencer (Artist) Ramon Rosanas (Cover) Mark Brooks
• Ant-Man faces off against his deadliest arch-enemy — the mercenary known as TASKMASTER!
•  Can we really call him an “arch-enemy”? Well, they’ve actually fought a bunch of times (look it up). And they definitely don’t like each other — that’s what “arch” means, right?
•  There’s a mystery villain pulling the strings! He’s the one covered in heavy shadow. Mystery villains never have good lighting. Need to get to an Ikea or something.

Gaumer: Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Return #1

Because, why the hell not? Bill S. Preston, Esquire and Ted, Theodore, Logan make a most excellent of comebacks that’s sure to become just as poplar as Bon Jovi’s ‘Slippery When Wet’ album. Well, maybe not, but I so want this series to be the bodacious return to the 1980s…and, well, EVERY other decade. I’m not sure how well this comic will be received by non-fans of Wyld Stallyns, but I can’t wait to take another ride in a phone booth time machine. I wonder if they’ll explain what a phone booth is for the younger readers…Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #1BILL & TED MOST TRIUMPHANT RETURN #1
Publisher: BOOM! STUDIOS
(Writer) Brian Lynch, Ryan North (Artist) Jerry Gaylord, Ian McGinty (Cover) Felipe Smith, Rob Guillory
WHY WE LOVE IT: Similar to our Big Trouble in Little China comics, we’re returning readers to one of our favorite-and most excellent-cult-classic properties with a new Bill & Ted adventure of epic proportions. And because we’re fans first, we’re making sure it’s something WE would read. Wyld Stallyns forever!
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: If you’re a fan of the films, our comics will pick up where they left off. Main creative team Brian Lynch (Angel: After the Fall) and Jerry Gaylord (Fanboys vs. Zombies) bring you all the silly humor and likable characters mixed with some cool historical science fiction you love! Plus, each story will have a backup adventure! This issue features a tale of tech terror by Ryan North (Adventure Time) and Ian McGinty (Bravest Warriors)!
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Following the time-traveling historic epic of Excellent Adventure and the turbulent life and death of Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted must now fulfill their destiny as the inspiration for galactic harmony! How can someone hate the Wyld Stallyns as much as the evil Chuck De Nomolos? With the power of time travel, Bill and Ted set their sights on turning a young 27th-century Nomolos’ non-nonheinous attitude into something most outstanding and metal!

Adam: Amazing Spider-man #16

Spider-verse and Superior Spider-man have been fun and all that, but I’m really looking forward to getting back to some of that good ole Spider-man fun. No more mulitverse vampires, alternate selfs, ot anything of that kind. Just some old fashinoned criminals, family problems, and funny quips is what I want and I hope Dan Slot delivers that here.Amazing Spider-Man #16AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #16
(Writer) Dan Slott, Christos N. Gage (Artist/Cover) Humberto Ramos
• Spider-Verse is over, but that doesn’t mean Peter Parker is safe.
•  Someone (or something) has invaded Parker Industries and is targeting its staff!
•  But how? Parker Industries’ security can keep out any living thing?!

Jules: East of West #18

This series been unbelievably spectacular! The last issues have had me terrified as to which direction the series would go next. While he may be busy at Marvel Hickman has yet to let me down with this series! I’m stoked. You should be! East of West #18

The last days of the world are upon us, and one man has become the living word of the apocalypse. This is the story of Ezra Orion and his unholy resurrection.
