Valiant To Make Films Based On Their Comic Book Properties

As reported on, Valiant Comics has announced that they will begin to make feature films based on their wide array of comic book properties

DC’s Justice League and Marvel’s Avengers are going to have to make room for even more heroes coming to the big screen. The independent comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment and the Beijing-based DMG Entertainment announced on Sunday a nine-figure investment and partnership for feature-film financing as well as publishing, television and licensing opportunities. Valiant’s library of characters and concepts include X-O Manowar, an alien abductee from the past thrown into the present with high-tech armor, and the series Harbinger, about teenagers with special abilities at odds with a corporation out to shape the destiny of the world. Comic superheroes are profitable and highly sought intellectual properties for film franchises, said Dan Mintz, the chief executive officer of DMG, in a statement, “so taking a stake in the last independent massive comic universe is a strategic investment for DMG that will produce movies and TV that are both appealing and relevant to a global audience.” In addition to developing films for release in the United States and China, the two companies will develop Valiant’s characters for new audiences in China and the Asia-Pacific region. There are plans for Chinese-language publishing, animation and theme parks, as well as toys and apparel.

The geeks at Outright Geekery can’t wait to see what Valiant brings to the superhero movie landscape. Is a shared universe in store? Who will play Ninjak? Can Valiant compete with Marvel and DC in yet another medium? We can’t wait to find out!

  1. This is TREMENDOUS news for all Valiant fans. VEI has the last, large, cohesive comics universe which can be grown in different forms of media and marketing. This can only bode very well for Valiant, the fans, and the comics loving public in general who can all now experience the quality story telling which IS Valiant!
