Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: February 11th, 2015

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Taylor: Thor #5

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I still can’t get enough of this comic. Every issue continues to impress with action, humor, intrigue, and all-around good writing. Seriously, just read it already.Thor #5THOR #5

• The mysterious all-new Thor has taken Midgard by storm. But if her enemies have their say, her reign as the Goddess of Thunder will be a short one.
•  Prince Odinson is making a list and checking it twice.
•  All-Father Odin is so desperate to see Mjolnir returned to Asgard that he will call on some very dangerous, very unexpected allies.
•  And the Absorbing Man and Titania are just up to their usual tricks. Namely, robbing banks and crushing anyone who dares get in their way.

David: Amazing Spider-Man #14

The Climatic Conclusion to Spider-Verse is here! All the Spiders clash against the Inheritors in an all-out battle to fulfill the Prophecy. Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel have done a marvelous job weaving pieces from some of the greatest strands of the Spider-Man mythos together into a story that has keep me glued month after month. Okay, enough with the web puns. But seriously, if you haven’t been reading this, you really should be. Who knows, maybe the death of the Spider-Uncle Ben is enough to make all the Spiders reboot the entire Marvel universe. Perhaps that’s the origin for the new Secret Wars… I’m kidding.

Also, the variant cover by Phil Noto is pretty fantastic.Spider-Man #14 Noto varAMAZING SPIDER-MAN #14

Gaumer: Darth Vader #1

Would you look at that? Little slave boy Annie Skywalker got himself his own comic book. Of course, we all know how this story ends, and we’ve known since the 1980s, but, I still want to enjoy the ride along the way to the obvious. And I can’t wait to see where writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larroca drive this thing. I love Gillen, he’ll right a good story, but it’s all about Lorroca and that art for me. I’ll probably have this read by the time I get to the comic shop counter, which is totally against the rules. Good, good! Let your hate flow through you!Darth Vader #1DARTH VADER #1

The original Dark Lord of the Sith stars in his first ongoing series!
Ever since Darth Vader made his first on-screen appearance, he became the one of the most popular villains to ever haunt an audience’s dreams! Now, follow Vader straight from the ending of A NEW HOPE (and the pages of the new STAR WARS comic book) into his own series, showing the Empire’s war with the Rebel Alliance from the other side! Writer Kieron Gillen (Uncanny X-Men, Journey Into Mystery, Iron Man) and artist Salvador Larroca (Invincible Iron Man, X-Men: No More Humans) bring us a peek behind the mask of evil!

Adam: Future’s End #41

This series is terrible. I’m not gonna lie to you about that, but for those of us who have actually bothered to stick around are finally getting our payoff. Brainiac has invaded Earth, Batman/Joker is on the hunt, and Superman has finally decided to stop being a mopey crybaby and actually get into the action. Hopefully this series ends with a bang and changes the DC universe like it promised at the start. If not, this book was a total waste.Futures End #41NEW 52 FUTURES END #41

Jules: All New X-Men #36

The original X-men hanging in the Ultimate Universe has been awesome. It just feels like one of those stories Bendis has waited his entire run to tell and it’s has been a brilliant arc thus far. With Bendis’ end of his X-era in sight now I feel the closure coming on a lot of things he’s had going on for a while. It’s been breath of life into the most convoluted series of titles and for the first time in a while it’s been just great.All-New X-Men #36ALL NEW X-MEN #36

• The Ultimate face-off you KNEW was bound to happen! All-New X-Men versus the Ultimate X-Men! But when both side are heroes, who can be the victor? And what side does this leave Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man on?
