Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: December 24th, 2014

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Taylor: She-Hulk #11

With this series quickly approaching an unjust and untimely end, Charles Soule is starting to tackle this series’ loose ends. And so it is that the mysterious Blue File is coming back in to play this week. If you haven’t been checking out this under appreciated comic, you’re running out of chances. Don’t let this one pass you by.

David: Sunstone OGN

Death Vigil creators Stjepan Sejic and Linda Luksic Sejic very own webcomic, Sunstone, arrives on shelves this Wednesday. This will be the first time the series is available in print! It’s simply too good to pass up. Sunstone is the story of Ally and Lisa, two girls with something in common; Lisa likes to be tied up and Ally likes doing the tying. Sunstone tells the story of their lesbian relationship, which happens to involve S&M, but contains elements of heart, comedy and geekiness sprinkled in.

Two women deal with modern themes of sex, relationships, and fetishism in this erotic romantic comedy. So beware all who enter, because, to quote a few hundred thousand readers on DeviantArt: “I’m not into BDSM…but this story…I get it.”

Gaumer: They’re Not Like Us #1

I’m a sucker for Image #1s, and there have been so many great ones this year that it’s hard for me to leave one on the shelf without at least giving it a try. But I have to be honest, I do not know the first thing about this comic. The official solicit suggests some super-powers will be involved, but besides that I’m going in blind, which is kind of refreshing. So, I’m going to read it first this week.

Eisner-nominated NOWHERE MEN writer ERIC STEPHENSON teams up with red-hot artist SIMON GANE for an all-new ongoing series!

We all have advantages over one another, but what if you were capable of things most of us can only imagine? What would you do – and who would you be? A doctor? An athlete? A soldier? A hero?
Everyone has to make a choice about how to use the abilities they’re born with… but they’re not like us.

Adam: Green Lantern Annual #3

Godhead finally comes to an end this week and we have been promised some big status quo changes in the GL franchise. With so many Lantern titles being cancelled soon, I’m interested to see where things are going for the lite bright brigade.

On the other stand the combined might of the various Lantern Corps – or what’s left of them. And in the wings wait the unlikeliest of allies: Hal Jordan and Black Hand. Changes are coming to the heroes of interstellar space, and it all starts here, in the climactic final battle of mortals vs. gods!
