Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: December 17th, 2014

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Taylor: Ms. Marvel #10

It’s time once again for my favorite comic on the shelves to get it’s next installment! After last month’s cliffhanger, Kamala has to rethink her tactics as the fight against the Inventor becomes one where she must win hearts and minds in addition to winning fist fights. This is a comic that manages to speak to young adults in meaningful way without being ham-fisted about it, which is no mean feat. Be sure to check it out.

• But has she taken on more than she can handle?
• Find out why Ms. Marvel is the best new super hero of the year!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

David: Wayward #5

The story is building momentum now and this issue shows no signs of slowing down. Got to hand it to Jim Zub and Steven Cummings, this series is getting better with every issue. Rori and the gang are thrown back into action when the man in the hat threatens Rori’s mom. Can they save Rori’s mom in time? Who is this man in the hat? Why is he interested in Rori’s mom? Where did all these cats come from? What color will Ayane’s hair be in this issue? So many questions will get answered this Wednesday!

The first story arc ends. Revelation and sacrifice.

Gaumer: Squarriors #1

I’m feeling saucy this week, and sometime you just have to say, “Why the hell not?” I’m actually really looking forward to this. The story surrounds brutal tribal warfare between Disney animals (and what’s not to love about that?) but every single preview page of this I’ve seen from Ashley Witter is beautifully gory. Do you Squirrel?

Squarriors is the epic saga of warring animals in a post-human world. Specifically a small tribe known as the Tin Kin, and their struggles building a life in the new world while confronting the hostile neighboring Maw tribe. $4.99

Adam: Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #36

This is easily the one of the best monthly books on the stands today. Combine the quirky science and humor of Dr. Who with the morality play of Star Trek and the team dynamic from the good X-Men of yore and you get this book. I really can’t sing its praises enough. Deadly Class may be the only other book that can be this one in terms of excellent dialogue.

Transformers More Than Meets the Eye #36Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #36—Days of Deception
James Roberts (writer) • Alex Milne (artist)
OUTLAWS! Before the war, Orion Pax was part of the Establishment—until a friend opened his eyes to the truth behind the lies and he vowed to overthrow the system. Now, it seems as if his newfound enemies are willing to go to any lengths to see him dead—even if it means waiting four million years…
