We all love awesome toys, and gift giving happens to be a huge part of the holiday season, so I’m doing an entire series of Tops o’ the Lot covering my personal Holiday Wish Lists.
First on the holiday agenda, LEGO! It’s been there pretty much every Christmas morning since I was knee high to minifig, and it’s so much more now than it used to be.
I don’t care how it happened, but I love them, and with the recent release of the Star Wars Episode VII trailer, I thought I’d narrow down the huge expanse of LEGO sets to just a single series. So, without further ado, we love characters, hit all the films, and look forward to the future, with Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot: Star Wars LEGO Sets.
Honorable Mention: LEGO Anakin and Sebulba’s Podracers
Alright, I admit it, the podracing seen was long and seemingly unimportant. It was sort of exciting in that ‘I wish I could do that’ kind of way, and that’s a reason enough to get your toy on. Plus, Baby Greedo minifig. I want one! But it’s really the Star Wars spacecraft that provide the most LEGO fun…well, almost.
Honorable Mention 2: LEGO Ewok Village
I had to throw this one in, because, out of all the playsets that aren’t a spacecraft, this one is the most fun. Look at all those minifigs! Like the podracers before it, this set is just fun to play with, giving it a spot on the list. But, for real fun, we need to go to space.
5. LEGO R2-D2
Everyone’s favorite astrodroid is an amazing LEGO set. He’s a whole foot tall, looks to be a blast to build, and would look great sitting on any bookshelf. *Beep Boop Whir Whizz* My thoughts exactly, R2.
4. LEGO Death Star
The mother of all Star Wars LEGO sets, this behemoth is over 16 inches around, comes with it’s very own Tie Fighter model, just about every room your Rebels could want to hang out in, and includes 24 minifigures! If only it looked more like the actual Death Star and not a screen door version.
3. LEGO Red Five X-Wing Starfighter
One of the most recognizable ship in all of popular culture, the X-Wing is undeniably cool. Putting the individual pats of this craft together piece by piece, and then assembling those different pieces into the finished product is very rewarding, despite the inclusion of only a single minifigure. The lack of a Skywalker pilot knock this set down a notch or two.
2. Imperial Star Destroyer
Over 19″ long and including 6 minifig and an awesome Emperor hologram, this set has it all. High difficulty, great detail, tons of extras, and loads of fun play time with the convertible top. But bigger is always better in Star Wars.
1. Super Star Destroyer
This 50 inch, 8 pound monstrosity is not for the light of heart, but it is a great toy for any LEGO an Star Wars fan. This set simply has it all. Great figures, a fun playset, an awesome display piece, and literally days of building.
