Geeks’ Picks for New Comics: June 25th, 2014

outright-geekery Logo NewNew Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. What are you looking forward to reading this week?

Jules: Trees #2

I’m beyond stoked on the idea of this issue being in my hands. The first issue was an absolute brilliant start to what I expect to be the best title of 2014! Warren Ellis just delivers the weird in the best ways, and this is another example of it! Jason Howard’s art is just the perfect for this honest Sci-Fi story. Pick it up and grab the first issue if you haven’t!

Trees 2

An Arctic research station. An Italian coastal town with an occult legacy. A new city in China. The future is being written in these places, in the shadow of a strange alien invasion that has become a historical mystery.

Taylor: Ms. Marvel #5

This week brings us the release of what I think is the best new series to come out of Marvel in a very long time. This issue will feature a major milestone in the super-hero career of Kamala Khan, as it will feature her first major dust-up with super-villainy. I look forward to seeing how it all plays out, and am confident that this title will continue to charm.

• Kamala has no idea either. But she’s comin’ for you, New York.

Christian: Batman #32

A lot of people have shared the opinion that Zero Year, the retelling of Batman’s origin..again, has gone on for way too long, and while I agree it’s been going on for a while, I’ve loved just about every minute of it. And the end is now in sight, as issue #32 is the second to last in the arc. It’s been a fun ride and the momentum is bound to reach another peak in this book. It’s on the top of my stack for sure.

Gaumer: All-New Ghost Rider #4

This isn’t even a close pick for me this week. Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore have delivered a Ghost Rider book that reinvigorates a character that had become as stale as day-old donuts. The new take to the character, contemporary story, and, OH, Tradd Moore’s amazing street-art style, has made this book the breakout title of All-New Marvel NOW! for me, and I cannot wait to tear into this one on Wednesday.

Ghost Rider 4

• The streets of East LA flare up with drug-fueled gang violence form DR. ZABO’s power-enhancing narcotic.
• Will ROBBIE REYES submit to the sprit inside him and go too far in protecting the neighborhood?
• What is MR. HYDE’s diabolical plan to expand his underground empire?

Those are our picks, what’s on the top of your stack this Wednesday?
